How can I make my microphone work with my speakers? Preamp or poweramp?

I have a Kustom speaker with an input and an output port. I have two microphones and two cables. Should I have a preamp or Poweramp? What does each do? I can not afford both. If you know all those cheap please tell me. Thank you.
